Live Streaming, In-Play Betting Expand for NPFL as New Season Nears

21 October 2026

As the 2026/27 Nigerian Premier Football League season approaches, Nigerian bookmakers are expanding their live streaming and in-play betting offerings, with a particular focus on local league matches. In recent months, several platforms - including 22Bet, Bet9ja, 1xBet, BetKing, and Stake - have begun offering live streams for select fixtures, marking a significant shift in the market.

Broadcaster Access Expands Reach for Nigerian Premier League

The expansion of streaming comes as the NPFL secures new partnerships to broadcast its matches. The league partnered with Murphy Ben International (MBI) in early 2026 to live-stream an increasing number of fixtures on YouTube. On NPFL Matchday 9, three games were streamed across MBI's YouTube channel, Afro Soccer, and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, demonstrating the rapid growth in coverage.

In-play betting has also progressed, with bookmakers like Bet9ja, BetKing, SportyBet and Betway launching real-time wagering on certain NPFL matches. While the number of streamed matches remains limited, Bet9ja emphasizes its commitment to delivering quality gaming and streaming options to Nigerian users. The platform also offers live betting on domestic football action.

The Promise and Pitfalls of Foreign-Linked NPFL Coverage

The NPFL betting market has attracted foreign operators like 22Bet and 1xBet, aiming to reshape betting on Nigerian football. 1xBet offers particularly comprehensive options, providing up to 75 in-match betting choices per game. Currently, 1xBet stands as the only major operator offering live streaming directly within its app, while others focus on live score updates and statistics.

The increasing availability of NPFL match streams has drawn attention from bettors, who are evaluating streaming quality, reliability, and regional accessibility. 22Bet requires a funded account or qualifying bet for stream access, while 1xBet promotes unrestricted HD streaming. BetKing mentions app-based access to local matches, though specific streaming details remain unclear.

Streaming in Nigeria: The Betting Opportunity and Challenges

Streaming Nigerian matches through betting apps presents a significant opportunity for bookmakers. NPFL games currently dominate locally streamed content, but international platforms may expand coverage beyond domestic leagues.

In reality, many Nigerian bookmakers' streaming services remain limited and often restricted. Only a small number of NPFL matches are currently available via bookmaker streams, with dedicated sports streaming services still leading for general viewers. Bet9ja, known for streaming various sports, maintains a strong reputation but has not clarified its NPFL streaming plans.

Analysts noted in mid-2026 that 22Bet leads the NPFL market, combining live streams with extensive coverage. While the platform sets industry standards, competitors like 1xBet, Bet9ja and BetKing are working to close the gap.

Looking Ahead: Streams and Betting Reshape Traditional Practices

As the new NPFL season approaches, bookmakers' developments will be closely watched. With streaming expectations increasing and betting shifting online, the upcoming season could mark a turning point for NPFL fans. Betting platforms aim to integrate sports streams into the gaming experience, but success will depend on stable, comprehensive coverage and capturing Nigeria's competitive betting market.
