Top Nigerian Bookmakers Launch Free Live-Streaming for NPFL Matches to Boost Mobile In-Play Betting
26 October 2026
Top Nigerian bookmakers are launching free live-streaming of Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) matches as part of a new push to attract mobile bettors to the country's domestic league. Starting with the 2025/26 season, fans will be able to watch official NPFL coverage on YouTube for free, alongside enhanced streaming options through league and bookmaker apps.
The new free streaming agreement comes on the heels of a shake-up to the official mobile destination for Nigerian fans. Propel Sports Africa, which provided the previous livestreaming service through its NPFL Live app for two seasons, has exited its partnership. The NPFL has taken over the app and service, rebranding it as the official YouTube channel for the league.
The NPFL is excited to offer this new streaming experience to our fans, said NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye in a statement. We know that access on mobile is crucial to supporting the growth of in-play betting in Nigeria. This will appeal to new bettors and keep our regular users more engaged than ever.
The new mobile features reflect a rapidly evolving digital strategy by the NPFL. In 2023, the league reached an agreement with Propel Sports Africa for a $5 million annual budget to broadcast NPFL matches in high definition on a dedicated mobile app, which has become known as NPFL Live. The service offered live broadcasts, match highlights, news and updates, and personalized options to users.
According to African sports news outlet Nigeria Football, NPFL Live proved widely popular, growing in prominence and importance over recent seasons. On the final day of the inaugural season, nine out of 10 matches were broadcast on the service. The app has also been credited for introducing new virtual engagement features such as interactive polls, quizzes, predictions and social media integration.
Yet in late 2025, as the next season approached, the league and Propel announced they had parted ways. Sports247, an official NPFL media partner, reported that NPFL's strategic partners GTI Asset Management & Trust Limited were organizing a replacement live-streaming plan for the upcoming term. That plan centers around taking NPFL Live in a new direction as the official YouTube channel for the league, with selected live match coverage streamed in HD for all fans.
Likewise, the NPFL announced a partnership with Murphy Ben International (MBI) to stream the top-flight matches live in Nigeria and abroad. According to TheCable, fans will be able to watch the matches on the official NPFL YouTube channel. Coverage including selected live match streams and delayed broadcasts, plus highlights and news review, will be provided for free.
We are delighted to be working with Murphy Ben International to provide this streaming service to our fans whose support is crucial to the success of our league, said Elegbeleye. The new partnership came just days after the previous NPFL broadcasting and streaming deal with Propel Sports Africa concluded, affecting planned coverage such as the league highlights show and delayed broadcasts of league matches.
NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye told TheCable that the new digital strategy will create new revenue opportunities for the league, even as it offers free streaming to fans. This could include greater visibility, stronger commercial prospects for clubs, and eventually some form of subscription tier for additional features.
Under our new strategy, fans are going to see a significant improvement in the amount of action they have at their fingertips, said Elegbeleye. This is going to create new value for our partners, and position the league for even greater growth in the coming seasons. The new service launched for the 2025/26 season opener, which saw MKO Sports Arena in Abeokuta host a 1-1 draw between Remo Stars and Rivers United.
While the league is focusing on free access for fans, many of the mobile-focused bookmakers are pulling together enhanced live-streaming experiences in Nigeria to promote in-play betting on the NPFL. This follows a busy year of evolution in the mobile betting market, as the number of legal operators, technology innovators and product pieces that keep fans in play has grown rapidly.
As of October 2026, Nigerian Matchday ranks leaders such as Betway, Bet9ja, BetKing, 1xBet, and SportyBet as providing live streaming of some NPFL matches, with in-play betting available on top of the video. Anonymous users can find matches broadcast live without requiring wagering. Users who are logged in under a verified account will see the same live streams, but with additional odds and markets overlaid to enhance the betting flow.
Running Stats and Odds During Live Video
Sportsbook apps enhance the appeal of in-play betting by displaying key match stats alongside the live stream. On-platform stats might show recent scores, formations and player books, which nicely pair with partners such as StatsBomb that are touting rotating streams of historic probabilities for all possible outcomes of the match. Betway used an analytics overlay on their streaming interface for the NPFL to show heatmaps and key pass networks as the action unfolds, feeding their proprietary Sports forecasts next.
Scratch cards and twitchy clicks are unsafe terrain. Hassle-free mobile experiences. Outside of apps, another sportsbook route to brand awareness this year underlies the NPFL's move to YouTube - direct product placement in their videos. Video hoods typically show potential goals, cards and penalties as per the odds generator at the right. Sometimes it's the sponsor's stats, sometimes it's an anonymous sports data provider. Online bookies and data suppliers are copiously looking to settle in here. One challenge: advertising placement in APLs for streaming at the edge, where OTT optimizes latency, network costs, buffering and other quality of service features.
Bookmaker Technology Innovation
Among the latest innovations creating value for bettors on the NPFL stream is race betting, where the bookmaker divides the match into segments to narrow down risk. For large tournaments like Premier League this year, betting providers have innovated by transforming each match into 90 mini-matches, where the odds update every minute with lifetime rewards, bonuses and guarantees. However, for the NPFL, operators like Bet9ja are instead splitting 90 minutes into 15 minute periods, with fresh opportunities by quarter. A similar approach is used for Tottenham Hotspur. This segment approach allows bettors to have more specificity around the action on the pitch, on-the-go.
Innovative Nigeria is running hot in the market share, partnership, customer growth and technology layers. Another eye-catching use of streaming was adopted by Betway, which overlaid a race card across all 20 top-tier matches for the weekend. Their app dedicated a prominent placement for an odds boost leading up to a big match, while on-screen anchors or win-lose broadcastes would highlight a deal of the day. For instance, a parlay game featuring select matches in the league. These loyalty bonuses encourages engagement, especially on the entry level of demos and market boundaries.
Mobile Features to Keep Betters in Play
Some of the easiest ways an operator can boost small-stakes engagement is by cutting down on the file size of what has to download and the amount of filing on the go. Smaller files, snap-to-place wager-inject and win bounty keys are all being implemented. More than $103.9 million was bet on the NPFL in 2025, per operators, up 53% from 2024. This acceleration owes partly to bettors using their phones to track the odds during matches. As noted, users can turn these odds into wagers in only a few clicks, without leaving the video window. As soon as they hit a drop to bet, the app re-renders the stream via a low-latency connection so odds can get updated in the corner of a bettor's screen before a ball has even been passed or a claim has been played.
Social features like reactions, group chats and private chatrooms are keeping small boundaries. After a goal, users can say 'Bloody nice' and reward the player who wrote the goal or reacted. Top bettors in Nigeria get badges they can display on their profiles, and can even level up over time by trying different game types and shelling out on the NPFL. Finally, because streaming is light on data, seeing a WAGMI or smoke emoji sting you with a friend just before a penalty makes everyone bet more. Betters send virtual cigars and pour drinks when an operator loses.
As bettors in the NPFL praise the stream, click-through in playbook, up to the moment we can alter the odds to win at every stage of the game, earn a larger quota of hands-on market participation. Beyond broadcasting however, the NPFL has the power to draw a lot of relevance. This all adds up to a compelling in-play experience and a strong commercial outlook for the evolution of Nigeria's domestic top tier, in stadiums and on mobile.
